Shoshone Falls and City Tour
Do you go crazy over Natural Wonders? Do you like American history and pioneer culture? Then this is the perfect Big Green Adventure for you! Come along on this scenic tour to Shoshone Falls and see why it is called the "Niagara of the West".
The first part of your tour will take you on a drive though the historic Old Town and Warehouse District of Twin Falls. In 1904, our town was founded and built and became home to shops, restaurants, theaters and more. This historic area has been restored much to its original state and refreshed with modern features, perfect for a leisurely visit after your tour! If you like architecture, we've got it all: Neoclassical, Spanish Mission, Modern and Gothic just to name a few. From our City Park and Courthouse to the original Justamere Inn Hotel, this tour would not be complete without a drive past our beautiful original churches. Your first stop will be at Twin Falls Dam and Waterfall where you will get views of the Snake River Canyon not seen by most visitors. Natural springs burst through basalt lava rock to expose "hidden streams and hanging gardens" as we take you to the edge of the "Snake" behind the dam. Next, we're off to Shoshone Falls where you will find yourself surrounded in ancient volcanic geologic history as your interpretive guide takes you back in time more than 15,000 years when Lake Bonneville overflowed its rim some 300 miles away ripping away Idaho's terrain and creating this stunning natural wonder ranked as one of the top three waterfalls in the United States. Learn about the hydroelectric power produced by the Shoshone Falls Power Plant built in 1909 located below its low wall diversion dam - the second on your tour. Our final adventure stop is at our Visitor Center where you can shop for souvenirs and walk along the top of the I.B. Perrine Memorial Bridge. This truss arch span bridge reaches 1500 feet across the Snake River Canyon at a breathtaking height of 486 feet. It is here you will take in the grandeur of our famous canyon and river below. |
