Inferno Cone Hiking to the top of Inferno Cone in Craters of the Moon National Monument & Preserve is well worth the trek. At first, this giant cinder cone may seem like a long walk straight up, however, the 360 degree view of the entire monument and preserve is unbelievably stunning. With the Grand Tetons to the east, the Pioneer Mountain Range on the north and the Great Rift's 52 mile volcanic eruption running east to west in your sights, you will be able to gauge the enormity of this geologic occurrence surely witnessed by the native Americans living in the area for over 10,000 years. From atop Inferno Cone views of spatter cones to the west, rivers of a'a and pahoehoe lavas on all sides and numerous other volcanoes will amaze all who venture up the trail.
